A WEEKEND ADVENTURE ON THE
BRITISH EURO AUTO TOUR FOR 2006
What happens if you take 112 of the most interesting sports cars, their drivers and navigators, mix in some incredible roads and the sunshine of Arizona in April ~ why you get the 9th Annual British Euro Auto Tour ~ the largest driving event in the Southwest. Come join us on a digital tour of this year’s driving event as we continue the tradition started by Roger Guzowski in 1998. This year we had drivers coming in from Los Angeles, CA and its suburbs, Apollo Beach, FL, Silver City, NM and a very special guest from “across the pond” ~ Reg Andrew from Nottingham, England. So top up with fuel, buckle yourself in and lets “Hit the Road Again”. Everyone starts off in Phoenix where the final registration takes place, goody bags, license plates & rally books with directions are handed out. Special items are included in the goody bags including a magazine featuring Doc & Margaret Scadron’s restoration business and their one of a kind XK 120 Jaguar. This year they are enjoying the tour in their new DB7 Aston Martin. Special thanks to Doc and his lads, especially Bob Baker, as not only did they assist with the chase vehicle and mechanical services to those in need, but working with Stephen Golde of the Rolls Royce Club they all created the “Biggest Bug Splat” trophy won this year by Charlie Wright of the MG Club. So off we go, from Phoenix to Wickenburg where coffee & donuts await out group with special parking courtesy of the Chamber of Commerce. Next, our route really gets interesting as we drive north through Skull Valley & Kendall to enter Prescott on the west side and special parking on “Whiskey Row”, closed for everyone but our tour. There was lunch & shopping and plenty of time to enjoy everyone’s cars and a chance to chat with the owner of that so special car you just noticed. With traffic lights held for our tour to get under way, we now head over the Mingus Mountains through the mining town of Jerome to enter Cottonwood with cold drinks & ice cream served by the Chamber of Commerce in Riverfront Park, set-aside just for our group. It’s here that Rob Lester, Mini Club, and his wife Bernadine will take individual pictures of drivers and their cars with prints being handed out Sunday morning. With this going on, a big thanks to Joe Frischknecht of the Alfa Club for recording and judging the “Best Sounding Exhaust” contest won this year by Joe Curry in his ‘63 TR-3. While Joe was having fun, Stephen Golde of the Rolls Royce Club was judging the “Mysterious Item” contest. Our first year for this contest so Stephen decided to measure with an IR thermometer the hottest radiator reading from cars in line for their pictures. So, with a reading of 190*, Steve Hefner in his unique 1999 SLR Caterham was the winner. Next stop is Flagstaff and our overnight stay at Little America. Happy Hour starts at 5:30 p.m. and this year we were treated to special merchandise and unusual items from Christina & Nouri , owners of Zeeba Boutique ~ a very unique and hidden treasure of Ahwatukee ~ their phone number is (480) 759-9640 or check out their website at www.zeebaboutique.com. Sunday morning starts off with a group breakfast and pictures of the previous day’s activities are being shown on large screen TV’s around the room and then the raffle prize drawing starts. With items from Stoner Industries, Mile Hi British Car Club, Coventry West, Lexol, Griot’s Garage, Meguiar’s Car Care Products and others sponsors, tickets are drawn and items handed out. This year’s winner of the “Most Desirable Car” as chosen by Ed Williams and Don Schlueter of the Mercedes Benz Club is Peter Steen with a 2005 Morgan Roadster. After breakfast we start our journey back to Phoenix by way of Payson. Special thanks to those mentioned & to Lance Johnson, Lotus Club, Frank & Judy Summers, Austin Healey Club & Randall & Carol Pace & Bob Jones of the Volvo Club and Aubrey Long for their assistance in making this event a success. Another great event concluded, new friends found and ideas exchanged. Hope you can join us for the 10th Annual tour, which is already scheduled for April 21-22, 2007.
